Every family has something that’s been handed down through the generations. Whether it’s a shoebox of old photos or a cupboard filled with linen, they are things to be treasured and appreciated. Following basic tips for handling and storage will help you keep the memories alive. Important heirlooms could be someone’s favourite childhood book; an ancestor’s valuable jewellery or sentimental costume jewellery; perhaps a scrapbook, an old family photo album, a love letter or a certificate. Using the right tools and supplies at hand, organising and preserving family treasures doesn't have to be complicated or overwhelming. Marea has 21 years experience in the museum sector at a local, regional and state level. Her passion is collection management and loves to share her knowledge with others. If you bring along you items Marea will be able to assess and inspire you to understand how preserving family heirlooms is critical for safeguarding your most precious memories.
